Human misery and human destiny are unpredictable. Who knows what is in store for us in future. An untimely loss of life is irreparable, unforgettable. The young boy, Thomas ‘TJ’ Hickey, who unfortunately lost his life in the accident ten years ago, it seems, is still ‘living’. His death has left a deep mark on the people’s psyche. They have not forgotten what has happened ten years ago. Their protests are on the rise as the number of cops deployed has also risen. Even today people have not come out of the shock, that young boy’s life was precious…as each life is…for everyone. The people seem to be expressing their anguish, their loss, their ‘not-forgetting’ psyche through these marches and protest. The authorities need to initiate a dialog and pay heed to the voice of people; after all it is ‘the people’ who make this world. The Hickey family and supporters demanding for an apology, along with requesting for a fresh inquest are quite enough to explain what they have all been going through for the last ten years. These issues need to be resolved, and the aggrieved party be made to feel satisfied through a dialog so that it brings with it a lasting solution that invokes a sense of peace and rest, and help people move towards future with hope, faith and trust.
Losses bring pain with them and the pain often remains. Though the losses cannot be repaired, the sense of anguish and helplessness can certainly be dispelled through dialog and empathy for which there should always be ample scope.
